The below list contains competency sets for both the broad spectrum of public health professions, as well as specific disciplines within the field.

General Public Health Competencies
Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals
Staffed by the Public Health Foundation (PHF) and funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health (Council on Linkages) leverages input from 19 national organizations and others in the public health field to maintain the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals. These Core Competencies are divided into three tiers based on seniority and outline the key skills needed by public health practitioners.

ASPPH Undergraduate Public Health Learning Outcomes Model
The Association of Schools & Programs of Public Health (ASPH) partnered with the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR), and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to produce a broad list of desired learning outcomes for undergraduate students of public health. Maternal and Child Health Competencies
In February 2001, the Association of Teachers of Maternal and Child Health (ATMCH) released its Maternal and Child Health Competencies document. HRSA's Maternal and Child Health Training program website provides additional resources related to these MCH competencies. More »
Maternal and Child Health Leadership Competencies
Version 3.0 of the Maternal and Child Health Leadership Competencies was produced in June 2009 by the MCH Leadership Competencies Workgroup of the MCH Training Grantee Network. The Network's website also provides resources and documentation related to these leadership competencies. More »
MCH Competency Development Resources

  • MCH Navigator: The MCH Navigator links learners to open-access webcasts, presentations, instructional modules, and online courses covering essential MCH skills and knowledge.
  • ATMCH Resource website: The Association of Teachers of Maternal and Child Health (ATMCH) provides leadership in education, research, and service in the field of MCH. The ATMCH Resources website links to MCH programs, online resources, and to organizations dedicated to MCH.
