Long-Term Mass Prophylaxis Considerations
Building on the planning efforts of local health departments and a 2015 publication entitled "The 49th Hour: Analysis of a Follow-up Medication and Vaccine Dispensing Field Test," NACCHO presented planning considerations, probable scenarios, and response strategies for long-term mass prophylaxis operations following an initial dispensing campaign in response to an aerosolized anthrax scenario. An expanded screening methodology and a dual vaccine and antibiotic POD model was also presented. To view the presentation click the following link. More »
Local Health Department Guide to Collaboration with Department of Defense
The Local Health Department Guide to Collaboration with Department of Defense will help local health departments better understand the process of integrating Department of Defense assets into a public health preparedness response, thereby facilitating development of support agreements for incidents requiring a mass dispensing or mass vaccination campaign. This guide is also intended to increase local health department capacity for responding to public health emergencies requiring a mass dispensing or mass vaccination campaign for local communities across the nation. Drive-Thru Point of Dispensing Planning Guide

Many local health departments are exploring alternative methods of dispensing, including drive-through PODs.

The Drive-Thru Point of Dispensing Planning Guide was developed by NACCHO in collaboration with the Orange County (FL) Health Department and the Louisville (KY) Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness to address the challenges facing localities preparing for mass medical countermeasure distributions to populations during disasters.

This guide primarily focuses on planning for Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) responses in urban or suburban areas that have difficulties meeting 100 percent prophylaxis coverage of their population within limited time frames using traditional indoor points of dispensing (PODs). It can, however, be modified for use in planning for other responses involving outdoor distribution.
