Issue Summary: |
Coming together as a consortium: 6 different health departments planning for preparedness for six years together |
Description of Issue(s): |
The Coulee Region in Western Wisconsin is a combination of small metro and very rural populations.? Six years ago, six local health departments were funding to form a preparedness group.? Separately, no department had enough resources (both expertise and equipment) for a disaster situation, and each health department has its own government and challenges to deal with. |
Actions taken to address the issue(s): |
During this current H1N1 novel outbreak, all six of the health departments have reacted in different ways (many by their small size), but keep each other informed constantly and share the limited consortium resources.? |
Outcomes that resulted from actions taken: |
We each have our own incident command structures, but use each other for support and information as the H1N1 outbreak continues and a very challenging fall flu season comes soon. |
