Story from the Field

Name of Health Department/Agency: Lewis County Health Department
State: WA
Date Added: 05/11/2009
Themes: Medical Care and Countermeasures
Issue Summary: Where would Region 3 store its SNS stockpile?
Description of Issue(s): Within a week of H1N1 making the news in the U.S., the site of Region 3's SNS supply decided to close its doors and consolidate into one business.  It left five counties scrambling to find a location within their own county.
Actions taken to address the issue(s): Lewis County fortunately found a spot within the week and it turns out it is a more secure location than the first spot.
Outcomes that resulted from actions taken: Lewis County has not decided to accept the SNS supply at this time but is ready when it does.  It threw a monkey wrench into five counties plans but, thanks to collaborative efforts within county government, a potential problem was averted.
