NOAA CanVis Visualization Tool (Clearinghouse)

CanVis is a visualization program used to "see" potential impacts from coastal development or sea level rise. Users can download background pictures and insert the objects (hotel, house, marina, or other objects) of their choosing. The software is used by municipalities to brainstorm new ideas and policies, undertake project planning, and make presentations. Training and live technical assistance are available for this tool.

CanVis along with coastline visualization, and more importantly for public health departments, includes links to the social vulnerability index (SOVI) and Spatial Trends in Coastal Socioeconomics (STICS) for census data on populations living on the coast in the Approaches Social Science section of the tool. For public health departments with coastline, this can provide a way to gather existing data on populations that will be impacted by sea level rise.
