Taking Action on Fundamental Causes: Breaking the Boundaries

Sharing Session (90 minutes)
Thursday, Jul 15
1:15 PM - 2:45 PM
Room 24
Conference Track:
Marketing to Improve Public Health Perception

Practitioners in many jurisdictions recognize that traditional public health practice emphasizing remedial programs and services can only function as a temporary fix to the systemic perpetuation of health inequities. Will the scope of practice expand to meet the challenges? This session will explore three innovative initiatives with national implications for locally advancing health equity. These initiatives offer exciting challenges for organizing local health departments, developing an assessment tool for health equity, and an internal process for engaging in staff dialogue. Participants will identify ways to rethink public health practice to address fundamental causes of health inequity.
