Lessons from Efforts to Integrate Prevention into Health Reform in 2009

Sharing Session (90 minutes)
Thursday, Jul 15
1:15 PM - 2:45 PM
Room 25
Conference Track:
Policy and System Changes - Impacts and Opportunities

NACCHO, the Prevention Institute, the Public Health Institute, and Trust for America’s Health were among a core group of public health, prevention, and equity organizations that led the effort to maintain prevention and wellness in health reform legislation. The overarching strategy included a number of synergistic components. This session will include a panel of representatives from each organization to describe the elements of this joint approach. Through engagement with the audience, this panel will establish a dialogue on how to build on the gains achieved through a greater focus on prevention. The session will highlight next steps with an emphasis on leadership opportunities for local health departments.
