NACCHO Annual 2009

NACCHO Annual 2009 Highlights

Over 850 local health officials and their public health partners converged on Orlando, FL, for the NACCHO Annual 2009 Conference at the beautiful Rosen Shingle Creek Resort. Under the conference theme, The New Public Health – Working Across Sectors to Leverage Investment in Communities, the program featured exciting general, sharing, and networking sessions; one-of-a-kind special events and receptions; and cutting-edge exhibits and innovative poster sessions.  NACCHO Annual 2009 Conference highlights included:

  • An interactive Town Hall Meeting on the H1N1 public health response on Wednesday, July 29.  The featured speaker was Dr. Richard Besser of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), who served as the Acting CDC Director during the height of the spring’s H1N1 influenza outbreak.
  • Keynote sessions, each followed by question and answer periods with the audience, presented by Dr. John Agwunobi, Wal-Mart's top health and wellness executive, on Thursday, July 30; Dr. Mary Wakefield, the recently appointed head of the Health Resources and Services Administration, on Friday, July 31; and Dr. Thomas Frieden, the new CDC Director, on Friday, July 31.
  • More than 110 interactive sharing sessions and poster presentations led by public health experts from across the U.S. ranging from innovative, multi-sector community health initiations to the latest advances in health information technology.
  • Numerous receptions that honored excellence in local public health as well as the conference social event at SeaWorld Orlando!
  • An Informatics Mini-Track that featured six interactive sessions plus special workshops before and after the conference.
  • Twitter use to keep attendees in the loop by using @NACCHOmeets and #NA09 for the latest NACCHO Annual 2009 updates and information.
