Reshaping Suburbia into Healthy Communities
Portland, OR
6/23/2013 1:00 PM–6/27/2013 4:00 PM
Obesity, type-2 diabetes, chronic physical ill health, social isolation, violence and crime are exacerbated by physical characteristics of suburban sprawl – distances, unsafe streets, single function zoning, food deserts, etc. The 50th IMCL Conference continues the public health/planning dialogue to examine environmental factors in suburban health problems, present multi-disciplinary findings, and the tools available to reshape fragmented and sprawling suburbs. Collaborative models of public health and planning, health impact analysis, social justice and obesity, healthy planning and community development strategies will be discussed.
